Alexx Mubanga (Zambia/Perth) is a Zambian born dance teacher, choreographer and Youth Worker who teaches ‘Afro-fusion’ – a unique style of African dance that blends various traditions such as; AfroBeats (West Africa), Afrohouse and Kuduro (Angola), Soukouss/N’dombolo, Rhumba (Congo Bassin), Afro-Pop, Kalindula (Zambia), and Pantsula (South Africa).
Alexx is well known in the African Australian dance community; teaching local classes in Perth since 2013, guest teaching in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide as well as hosting and collaborating with professional international dancers and choreographers from Jamaica, Uganda, Zambia, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland and Angola.
In 2015 he was crowned the first Dancehall King of Australia and after extensive teaching in his hometown Lusaka, he created a unique African dance move called ‘Shatta’ (2016) or otherwise known as ‘Chimwemwe dance’ that became one of the most popular dance steps celebrated in Zambia and many parts of Africa. Alexx subsequently appeared on national TV; Australian Broadcasting Cooperation promoting his passion for dance and his extensive youth and dance workshops in Perth and Africa.
Alexx is passionate about promoting health, wellness and community through dance, with over 10,000 followers on Facebook page and over 4,00 active followers on Instagram Alexx utilises social media to reach out, promote and advertise for classes, workshops and mentorship programs.
